Kahruba, as amber is known here, is fossilised tree resin rather than a mineral. This light yellow piece weighs 1.80 ct (1.98 ratti) and costs Rs. 2,700, about Rs. 1,500 per carat.
Amber is very soft, only 2 to 2.5 in hardness, and feels warm and light in the hand. Keep it away from perfume, hairspray and alcohol, which can dull its surface. It is best in a pendant or earrings rather than a ring. This light yellow amber has not been tested for treatment. Cash is paid to the rider on delivery.
