Safaid Aqeeq is white to milky grey chalcedony. Good pieces have a soft glow, a little like frosted glass with light behind it, and some show faint white bands or cloudy patterns. It is a quiet stone that pairs naturally with silver.

White agate is less common in Pakistani shops than red or black Aqeeq, so many buyers come looking for it by name. It is often requested for a ring worn alongside other stones, or by people who simply prefer a pale, clean look.

How to pick one

  • Glow: hold it to a lamp. Even translucency without chalky, dead patches is best.
  • Tone: pure milky white is popular; a grey or bluish tint is natural and costs a little less.
  • Surface: white shows marks and inclusions plainly, so look closely at the photo for pits or cracks.

White agate is usually left untreated, since there is little to gain by colouring it white. Bleaching is occasionally used to clean up stained material. Imitations made of white glass or plastic exist; glass often shows round bubbles, and plastic feels light and warm. Each listing gives the treatment status we know.

Some families treat white Aqeeq as a stone of calm and purity in their tradition, and it is a popular gift for an older relative. We keep that as tradition only.

Hardness 6.5 to 7 makes it durable for daily wear. The one weakness of a pale stone is staining: oils, hair dye and turmeric can leave marks in porous areas. Take rings off for cooking and wash the stone now and then with mild soap and warm water.
